Colombia
Our visit to Colombia has turned out to be much more of an
adventure than we could possibly have imagined when we left the
sweltering heat of Cartagena. We expected to explore for a few
days and quickly move on to the next country. The more we have
seen of Colombia however, the more it has got under our skin.
Despite our lack of Spanish the people have been extremely friendly,
keen to chat and anxious to know what we think of their
country. Every mountain road has brought new challenges and new
experiences from night driving adventures along unmapped dirt
tracks to landslides in torrential rain. We have driven
up hill and down dale, taking in the mild mannered landscapes,
tastes and smells of coffee country; the rugged wilderness of
the El Cocuy Sierra Nevada and the simple beauty of several historic
collonial towns. We have however really only just scratched the
surface of what Colombia has to offer.
Now on a hill top overlooking the city of Bucaramanga we're
pausing to reflect on everything we've done so far and to celebrate
Greg's 40th birthday in style - with a paragliding course.
Even with this we've had more than we bargained for. Aside
from soaring with the birds (which is fabulous), lets just say that
we have both become familliar faces at the local
hospital... |
